New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) The government should bring out a law to protect the rights of people affected with HIV and AIDS, a Congress Member in Rajya Sabha today demanded.
Since people with HIV and AIDS are facing discrimination, the Health Ministry must consider an anti-discriminatory law to address violation of their rights, E M S Natchiappan said during Special Mentions.
He said such a law would ensure that HIV-infected people get free treatment and free medicines. He pointed out that medicines are not available to them free of cost.
Raising the issue of growing number of people getting affected by diabetes, Mahendra Mohan (SP) said the government should formulate a national policy on this.
He said seven crore population in India are likely to be diabetic by 2025 as against four crore in 2007 and the country is being termed as the diabetes capital of the world.
